AMSHeR Steering Committee Meeting 2

AMSHeR hosted it’s second full steering committee meeting this February in Addis Ababa at the Adlon Hotel. The meeting was facilitated by Oxfam’s Rajiv Dua.

AMSHeR takes part in the Africa Sexuality Conference on Sexuality and HIV/AIDS

In addition to hosting a panel on MSM and HIV at the February 2010 Africa Sexuality Conference on sexuality and HIV/AIDS, AMSHeR actively participated in other panels of the conference giving various presentation on MSM’s health and rights.

Yvonne Chaka Chaka, the Princess of Africa, supports AMSHeR

Yvonne Chaka Chaka launched AMSHeR’s booth at the exhibition Hall of the International AIDS conference. Yvonne also participated in other AMSHeR sponsored event and spoke very strongly on the need to protect MSM and LGBT people from Human Rights violations

AMSHeR Annual 2011 Membership Meeting

AMSHeR held its first Annual Membership Meeting on the 5th-9th February in Maputo Mozambique at Hotel Pestana Rovuma. The meeting was facilitated by Sam Avrett.

AMSHeR Leadership Institute

From the May 31 to June 3, AMSHeR held its first Leadership Institute – an intensive training workshop to develop the capacity of its membership on human rights advocacy and HIV and health programming. The Institute had three objectives:, (1) To develop abstracts for the 17th edition of the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa, (2) to train AMSHeR members on the Global Fund on AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GAFTM) its basic operating principles, its core structures at the global and country level as well as opportunites for influencing its process for greater engagement with African MSM and LGBT organizations and, (3) to develop written submissions for the Global Commission on HIV and the Law.
