Envisioning Project takes off

The Envisioning Global LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) Human Rights project and the Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya have partnered in Human Rights advocacy for the LGBTI community in a unique way by the use of research and documentary making to address issues of criminalization of people on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity /expressions and the need to address violence and human rights violations of LGBTI people.

Launched on World AIDS Day 2011, GALCK has since constituted a team of stakeholders and the LGBTI community that is working on the Envisioning Research Plan. This will detail what the project will be doing in 2012. It features a coordinated research plan that will present aspects on health, including HIV/AIDS, Para-legal issues and human rights, Pyscho spiritual, economic and socio-cultural issues and concerns of LGBTI persons and organizations.

GALCK: 2011 Successes and Plans for 2012

Gays and Lesbians Coalition of Kenya  (GALCK) themed the second half of the 2011 “Business Unusual”.  2011 was the year that GALCK underwent turbulent moments such as a challenging transition of leadership and governance but was able to pull through and record remarkable successes.

These successes included:

Institutional strengthening – GALCK developed, revised policies and procedures and put governing and operational systems and structures in place. It recruited, and hired qualified staff on performance contracts for strategic positions, and aligned itself to the International framework on CSO development effectiveness, an effort that saw GALCK receive a special mention during the Civil Society of The Year Awards (CSOYA) 2011.

Network Expansion – GALCK was able to establish presence nationally by conducting needs assessment and basic capacity enhancement for groups in different counties across the country. GALCK was...

The African Men for Sexual Health and Rights (AMSHeR) will be hosting the "Claim, Scale-up, and Sustain" MSM and HIV pre-conference on December 3, 2011, in Addis Ababa - Ethiopia, prior to the 16th edition of the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA).

The aim of this Pre-Conference is to increase attention on MSM/LGBTI and HIV related issues in Africa, to reflect on the state of the response in MSM communities on the continent, and to identify ways forward for scaling up MSM and HIV  interventions. Read more ...
